KEY STAGE 3 - Years 7, 8 & 9

At Key Stage 3 students will study topics in History, Geography, Religious Education and Citizenship. One teacher will teach all 4 subjects and we believe this helps progression from primary school. It also helps ensure that a class teacher develops a sound knowledge of students’ needs.

At the end of each unit of History, Geography, RE and Citizenship, students will complete an assessment which will be used to help give a National Curriculum attainment level at the end of the year. Humanities lessons are supported by a wide range of resources including visits, videos and computer programmes. There is a visit to St Albans which aims to develop students’ historical and RE skills. There are also elements of fieldwork in each Geography unit. Homework is set at least once a week. There may be a research or reading homework, but at least one homework will be a written homework based on a specific task.

The second piece of coursework is worth 10% and is an extended essay based on changing working practices as part of their contemporary issues unit.
